Certificate in Ayres Sensory Integration (CASI)

With decades of experience in continuing education in ASI, the leaders at CLASI have developed the Certificate in Ayres Sensory Integration (CASI) with an emphasis on optimal learning methods for the various types of content. The course is a six module hybrid program which provides the convenience of self-paced, online learning with onsite learning for hands-on concepts that are enhanced through mentored experiences and feedback.

Ayres Sensory Integration Theory

 

Module 1 is a research-based series of lessons that provide a foundation in ASI theory. We strongly advise that prior to starting, you familiarise yourself with the seminal texts such as Ayres’ Sensory Integration and the Child (2005), available through https://www.wpspublish.com. Additional required and recommended readings are available at www.cl-asi.org/readings/

Hands-On Comprehensive Assessment in Ayres Sensory Integration

(Live in-person event Sydney)


Module 3 provides hands-on practice and review of all aspects of sensory integration and praxis with a variety of assessments introduced in module 2. Participants will be able to clarify any questions they have about the information presented in the online instruction, practice assessment administration and scoring with peers, and when possible, practice the assessments with children brought in to the course.

Evidence-Based ASI Intervention Including Fidelity to Intervention

Module 5 introduces the research and manualised methods of ASI intervention, including the Fidelity to ASI Intervention measure that assists researchers and clinicians in distinguishing between interventions that are faithful to the principles of ASI and those that do not meet the criteria.

Evidence-Based ASI Intervention Hands-On Practice and Review

(2 days Online + 2 days Live in-person event Adelaide)

Module 6 provides the opportunity for therapists to observe experts in ASI intervention strategies work with children in a clinic which meets the criteria outlined in the Fidelity Measure. Participants bring a completed case to the course for analysis in group discussions, including interpretation of assessment findings, identified outcomes, and intervention strategies, design, and refinement of the fidelity to the ASI intervention principles.

Meet The Presenters

Susanne Smith Roley OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA is an occupational therapist with more than 30 years of experience in pediatrics. She obtained her BS in OT at Indiana University, her MS in Allied Health Sciences at Boston University and her OTD at University of Southern California. She is in private practice in Orange County in Southern California and co-founder of the Collaborative for Leadership in Ayres Sensory Integration (CLASI). Susanne was on the original faculty of the Center for the Study of Sensory Integrative Dysfunction (CSSID0 started by Dr. Ayres, subsequently known as Sensory Integration International (SII)). She was a course originator of the Sensory Integration Certification Program sponsored by USC/WPS and its Program Director for 14 years through the University of Southern California Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. She is a past chair of the Commission on Practice and the Sensory Integration Special Interest Section for AOTA; and a contributing author of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process, 2002 and 2nd Edition.


She is an internationally recognised author and lecturer on the theory and application of sensory integration. She is co-editor of numerous chapters, articles, and the books, Understanding the Nature of Sensory Integration with Diverse Populations and Sensory Integration: Applying Clinical Reasoning to Diverse Populations. She is a fellow of the AOTA and recipient of the AOTF Virginia Scardina Award of Excellence and the AOTF A. Jean Ayres Award.

Zoe Mailloux, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA is a founding partner, alongside Susanne Smith Roley, of the Collaborative for Leadership in Ayres Sensory Integration (CLASI). She has participated in test development and clinical research related to sensory integrative dysfunction and autism and she was a research assistant to Dr. A. Jean Ayres from 1978 to 1984 during which time she was involved in many clinical and research projects with Dr. Ayres. Zoe has more than 30 years of experience in non-profit management and she is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, Jefferson School of Health Professions at Thomas Jefferson University.  She is also in private practice and consults on a variety of projects including program and professional development. Zoe has published numerous journal articles and textbook chapters and has received a number of professional awards, including being named a fellow of AOTA in 1993. She also received an award of excellence from the Autism Research Foundation, the Wilma West Lectureship at the University of Southern California and the A. Jean Ayres Award and the Virginia Scardina Award of Excellence from the American Occupational Therapy Foundation.  Zoe is interested in innovative practice that will enhance life satisfaction in new and effective ways for children and their families.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be in writing and received by Kickstart Kids Therapy in accordance with the following conditions:

Online modules (1, 2, 4, 5): you are not eligible for a refund as soon as you have accessed any online course material

Module 3: cancellations must be received prior to 13th May 2024

Module 6: cancellations must be received prior to 28th August 2024

Tickets are transferable but must be made in writing (courses@kickstartkids.com.au). Refunds will be issued after course date (minus $100 processing fee). Kickstart Kids Therapy reserves the right to cancel any course with due cause and refund in full. Participants purchasing non-refundable airfare tickets are encouraged to enquire as to course availability before final purchase.
